Gravity Head 2014 (the 16th such bacchanalia in a whacked-out series that began in 1999) commences at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28.
What is Gravity Head? If you gotta ask, you’re never gonna know. Nonetheless, here’s the official explanation.
Gravity Head is NABC’s annual celebration of the brewing world’s biggest and best. From Feb. 28 until all the kegs are gone, we’ll be devoting numerous taps to showcasing these rare and sought-after beers, as chosen to exhibit maximum diversity of flavors and stylistic inspiration. Not all listed Gravity Head beers are served at the same time. There is constant flux. See the blackboards for daily selections. Many other NABC beers and guest drafts will be available during the festival, which pours through early April.
Following is the list of kegs slated for tapping. These will be tapped and poured in waves over a month or more, until they’re all fond travel memories in the addled minds of heavy rail travelers.
For the opening day tap takeover in 2014, it’s the occasion to welcome all our friends from Schlafly in St. Louis; but most importantly, former NABC brewers Jared Williamson and Kyle Tavares. Thanks to Stephen Hale and Scott Shreffler for their efforts in assembling the contingent.
As noted above, beers from Tin Man have their own night, and of course, NABC’s choices join Founders and Flat12 beers for tapping beginning on Friday, March 14, 2014.
In addition to all the Schlafly beers on opening night, enthusiasts will have the opportunity to select a “Fan Choice” to fill the final tap slot. Voting will take place during the week of February 24, after the remainder of the starting lineup is selected.
There may be “bonus” tappings, depending on what turns up. Foraging never, ever stops.
Vintage dates appear only on those beers one year old or more. Cheers. Get your designated drivers now.
